About TKRB & Hoshijima

THE BASIC PREMISE OF TOUKEN RANBUTouken Ranbu (abbreviated to TKRB) is a mobile & PC gacha game developed by Nitro Plus in 2015.The simplest premise of this game is that in the year 2205, you play as the Saniwa (loosely translated as “sage”) who is appointed by the Ministry of Time to turn historical Japanese swords into men (i.e. the Touken Danshi, lit. “sword men”), and send them out to fight the History Retrograde Army (abbreviated to HRA) who wants to change history. Which means there’s a lot of time travel involved.The swords all live in a citadel complex known as a honmaru, which is a traditional Japanese estate, basically, where they are almost self-sufficient with farmwork and horses to care for, on top of other duties such as scouting for resources and training for combat.Exactly how, where and what happens in various Touken Ranbu media revolves around this basic premise, and thus is kinda open to interpretation.***HOSHIJIMA AU

Hoshijima is an island off the coast of Honshu (specifically north of Matsue, in the Sea of Japan, facing Korea) that is placed in a specific one-year time-loop dimension created in the year 2205. This means the entire year (in terms of weather, seasons) loops while the rest of the world moves on as usual.Because time there loops on a yearly basis, the Ministry of Time counts the passage of 1 year/365 days as "cycles" as in "one cycle of 4 seasons" since Hoshijima’s inception in 2205.There are 7 honmaru in Hoshijima, and one southern port town that faces the mainland, which is run by employees of the Ministry of Time (kudagitsune).Each Saniwa is selected from a reasonable time period in Japan, and forms a contract with Konnosuke for a 1 Cycle service.They each can summon a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 Touken Danshi. This limit is to ensure their life expectancy is not cut short.The contract can be extended for another two Cycles maximum (total 3 Cycles) for the same reason. While in the contract, the Saniwa will not physically age.The Saniwa are compensated for their service by having a wish (with T&C) fulfilled by the Ministry of Time.Once the contract ends, they will return to their own time, in the exact place they were taken from, with all their memories of the service wiped. The same goes for the Touken Danshi (they only retain procedural memories aka ‘how to fight/do things/use things’ and memories of their original master).However, should they create a strong enough bond with a Touken Danshi, said danshi may petition a request to the Ministry of Time to follow their Saniwa to the appointed time to live as a normal person, and not a tsukumogami (Thanks to @monocots for this idea). Once they leave the service, the Touken Danshi cannot be summoned again by any other Saniwa.The Saniwa are selected due to their strong magical abilities regardless of age or gender. They do not normally participate in sorties or expeditions, but some have been known to do so in the past, if they are skilled in battle.

- H2 (赤, aka, red), on the northeast
- H3 (紺, kon, dark blue), on the southeast
- H4 (緑, midori, green), in the centre, one half of the largest honmaru complex. Is later renamed (墨, sumi) once the new saniwa moves in
- H5 (紫, murasaki, purple) is Kaori’s half of the largest honmaru complex
- H6 (橙, daidai, orange), in the southwest up the foot of a mountain (Akiko’s honmaru)
- H7 (空, sora, sky blue) in the west, near the lake, and is the newest complex

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS IN HOSHIJIMAThe island is first established in 2205, and Kominatsu (a 500 year old fox spirit) is appointed as the first Saniwa. After the premature death of several human Saniwa appointed after her, the Ministry imposed a 12 Toudan + 3 Cycles limit for all subsequent Saniwa. Komi isn't affected as she has a longer lifespan.In Cycle 13, the Saniwa of the southwestern honmaru (orange) became tainted by the History Retrograde Army (HRA), and turned against the Ministry. As a result, the HRA invaded the island, forcing the Ministry to deploy additional resources to take the island back. Komi is then offered the position as Guardian of Hoshijima, which she takes, thus ending her service as a Saniwa.To accomodate new Saniwas, the central honmaru is renovated to accomodate 2 Saniwas in the same complex, while the Ministry slowly works on decontaminating the cursed honmaru.In Cycle 28, Kikkou Sadamune becomes the first Toudan to leave the roster and is reborn as a human after petitioning to the Ministry of Time to follow his saniwa back into their timeline; and thus relinquishing his status as tsukumogami.All current Saniwas in this AU are recruited in Cycles 33-34.***

I have 5 Saniwa in total (my sister owns the other 3); they are all appointed at different eras.I used to list down all 5 of mine, but for simplicity's sake, I'm just going to focus on my main Saniwa, Akiko.

Their Story⭐️ The First Meeting:
They first met when Azuki is summoned as the 4th Touken Danshi in Akiko’s honmaru. At first, she found him handsome and he found her beautiful, but that was about it. After Kenshin arrived (5th Toudan), Akiko begins to see him as a fatherly figure for the little ones, which starts a spark in their relationship.⭐️ The Relationship Blossoms:
Akiko finds herself getting more and more attracted to him, but she can’t decide if she’ll tell him how she feels because she’s aware she will die 6 years after returning to her original timeline, thanks to her meeting an older Kaori on the same island. She decides to keep this a secret from everyone.Azuki, on the other hand, also finds himself becoming very fond of her, but initially thought it was due to his loyalty, until he realises it wasn’t, and confesses to her (randomly) on the morning after the Hanami party.⭐️ Star-Crossed Lovers:
After Azuki’s sudden confession, Akiko decides to just dive right into the relationship, and they started dating. They didn’t share a first kiss until a few days later during a date in town. Their relationship remains warm and fluffy (so much so that the little ones treat them like Mom and Dad), with some sexual tension sprinkled in.It turns angsty when Azuki goes to the Ministry to petition to follow Akiko at the end of her service and be with her in her own timeline, only to find out she had preliminarily blocked this request. When he confronts her, she finally tells him the truth of her impending death.⭐️ Reunited in the End:
In the aftermath of Akiko’s fate being revealed, Kominatsu (aka Komi, the kitsune guardian of Hoshijima) promises to negotiate with the gods of the afterlife for Akiko’s rebirth as a kitsune after reaching the end of her human life. Akiko is later brought back to Hoshijima as the second guardian of the island, working alongside Komi to protect the new Saniwa and Touken Danshi. Komi restores the memories of Akiko (and Azuki), and they live happily ever after. They eventually have one daughter, whom they named Anna.
